Caring for Your Leather Goods
Sangre de Mar pieces are crafted from premium leather, selected for its quality, durability, and ability to age beautifully over time. With proper care, your bag will develop character and patina unique to you.
General Care
-
Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight
Extended exposure can cause leather to fade or dry out over time. -
Keep away from heat and moisture
Avoid placing your bag near heat sources such as radiators, heaters, or car interiors, and protect it from heavy rain or humidity. -
Store thoughtfully
When not in use, store your bag in a cool, dry place. Use the provided dust bag or a soft cotton bag to protect it from dust and light. Avoid plastic bags, which can trap moisture.
Cleaning
-
Routine cleaning
Gently wipe the leather with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth to remove dust and surface dirt. -
Spot cleaning
For light marks, use a clean, damp cloth and gently blot the area. Do not scrub. Allow the leather to air dry naturally. -
Avoid harsh products
Do not use abrasive cleaners, alcohol-based products, baby wipes, or household chemicals, as these can damage the leather’s surface.
Conditioning & Maintenance
-
Leather conditioning
Occasionally, you may apply a small amount of a quality leather conditioner to help maintain softness and prevent dryness. Always test on a discreet area first. -
Natural variations
Leather is a natural material. Variations in grain, texture, and color are part of its character and should be embraced.
Preventing Damage
-
Avoid sharp objects
Be mindful of items inside or around your bag that could scratch or puncture the leather. -
Do not overload
Carrying excessive weight may distort the shape of your bag over time. -
Handle hardware with care
Zippers, clasps, and metal components should be handled gently to maintain their finish.
Spills & Accidents
-
Act promptly
If liquid spills on your bag, gently blot (do not rub) with a dry, absorbent cloth. -
Air dry only
Never use heat or direct sunlight to speed up drying.
For more serious stains or concerns, we recommend consulting a professional leather care specialist.
A Note on Longevity
Our bags are designed to be worn, lived with, and kept. With time and use, leather will soften and develop a natural patina — a reflection of your journey and the life of the piece.
